Autism and the Decision to Drive

This short film was written by Dennis Debbaudt and Jerry Newport, an adult with Asperger syndrome who has been driving for 45 years.  He and his wife, Mary, have written many books, including Mozart and the Whale:  An Aspergers Love Story.  This film will discuss many of the important factors that should be considered when a person with an autism spectrum disorder is considering whether or not to drive, including:  focus, judgment, flexibility, patience, planning, interactions with police, etc.  This film is being sponsored through the generosity of PACT, Parents of Autistic Children Together, a parent support group and chapter of the Autism Society of America:  http://www.solvingthepuzzle.com and Camden County College’s Center for Civic Leadership and Responsibility.
