Forecast High Heat to Close Schools Early

Gloucester Township Public Schools will close early on Wednesday due to forecast high temperatures in the high 90s; BHPRSD will close early Wednesday through Friday.

UPDATE, 2:45 p.m.: Black Horse Pike Regional School Distict's three schools—Highland, Timber Creek and Triton—will send students home early the rest of the week due to anticipated high temperatures in the 90s. The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for the area for Wednesday afternoon through Thursday evening. NWS is forecasting highs of 96, 97 and 90 Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, respectively. ---------- Gloucester Township Public Schools announced this morning it will close its 11 schools early on Wednesday due to forecast high temperatures in the upper 90s. The National Weather Service (NWS) was calling for a high temperature of 96 degrees in Blackwood on Wednesday as of around noon today. "Since most of our schools are not air-conditioned, the sooner we get the kids out, the better off they'll be," Superintendent Thomas Seddon said. The schools will operate on a regular one-session schedule on Wednesday, Seddon said. The K-8 district was already slated to begin operating on a regular one-session schedule for the rest of the school year beginning on Thursday. The last day of school is Monday. NWS is calling for highs of 97 and 90 on Thursday and Friday, respectively, but temperatures should be more seasonable over the weekend, with highs forecast in the low 80s.
