GTPS Adds Extra Day to End of School Year

The K-8 district's school year will now end June 11 with an extra winter break day added.

Gloucester Township Public Schools students will make up their extra day of winter break by staying in school until at least June 11, according to Superintendent Thomas Seddon.

The school year was originally slated to end on Friday, June 8. Barring snow days, school will now end Monday, June 11.

The Gloucester Township Board of Education adopted the amended calendar Monday night during its regularly scheduled meeting.

Just last week, the K-8 district announced on its website that it would extend winter break by one day, through Jan 2.

Students and staff were scheduled to return to school Jan. 2 under the 2011-12 calendar adopted by the board earlier this year. Now, they get to sleep in one more day before returning on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

The Black Horse Pike Regional School District also extended winter break by one day and is now also scheduled to end its school year a day later than previously planned. The year is now scheduled to end Thursday, June 14, for the district's three high schools—Highland, Timber Creek and Triton.

Federal, state and local offices will also be closed on Jan. 2, in observance of New Year's Day, which falls on a Sunday this year. Christmas Day will also be observed a day later, on Monday, Dec. 26, with federal, state and local offices closed, as well as most banks.
