Virgilio, Ceaser Win, but Nine Others Fall at Region 8 Tournament
Brandon Virgilio and Brian Ceaser punched their tickets to the quarterfinals of the Region 8 Wrestling Tournament.
While six Timber Creek High School wrestlers and Highland’s Martel Harrison got to look on Wednesday night during the NJSIAA Region 8 Wrestling Tournament, 11 local wrestlers took to the mat in hopes of earning their way into weekend matchups.
Highland's Brian Ceaser and the Timber Creek's Brandon Virgilio took care of business at Egg Harbor Township High School, but for nine other Region 8 qualifiers from Black Horse Pike Regional School District schools, Wednesday meant the end of the road.
Ceaser, who placed second at the District 30 tournament, had a decisive win, pinning Clayton’s Cory Jacob in one minute, 10 seconds at 120 pounds. One weight class later, Virgilio scored a 9-4 decision over Egg Harbor Township’s Brandon Bower to punch his ticket to weekend action, which gets going Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Virgilio will join John Amato, Ricky Carter, Brandon Keller, Dom Ruggerio, Bryce Shade and Robert Shade in quarterfinal action Friday. The six-pack of Chargers—along with Highland's Harrison—earned automatic spots in the top eight of their weight classes by virtue of winning district titles.
Things did not go as well for the rest of the clan. Timber Creek’s Schalor Blackshear, Matt Kountz, Isiah DeGuzman and Joey DiMartino, all lost, as did Highland’s Ryan Wade, Jordan Warren and Shedlon Morris and Triton’s Anthony Irvin and Seth Tinsley.
