Students Recognized at BHPRSD School Board Meeting

Students from the Highland Marching Band, as well as an Eagle Scout, Girl Scouts and members of the Family Career and Community Leaders of America were all honored by the school board on Thursday night.

A number of students from were recognized for their achievements at Thursday's meeting.

The Highland High School marching band were honored for their outstanding efforts throughout the fall season. The band played a number of songs, such as "Billie Jean" and "Eye of the Tiger," for the people in attendance at the meeting.

The Board of Education also recognized Eagle Scout Award winner Benjamin Fuchs, as well as Girl Scout Silver Award winners Rebecca Lange, Megan Rogers, Katie Mickelson and Katie Chadwick.

The five award recipients, which are all sophomores, were recognized for their volunteer efforts with their respective organizations. Each of the students received a certificate from Highland principal Beth Pettite.

Awards were also given out to seniors Kailyn Small, Nicole Panachuk, Melissa Blevins and Courtney Scharinger. These four girls are all members of the FCCLA, which is the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.

The four attended the FCCLA conference in Anaheim, CA, over the summer and won gold medals at the event. After receiving certificates, the group gave a speech about their trip to California and what they learned and achieved at the conference.
