Timber Creek Boys, Girls Advance to Semifinals

The boys and girls basketball teams advance to the Group 3 semifinals.

All season the Timber Creek Regional High School boys basketball team believed it could be a serious contender once it was whole.

As it turns out, the Chargers were right.

George Sapp scored 23 points and Sameen Swint added 18 to lead No. 4 Timber Creek to a 60-44 win over No. 5 Delsea Thursday night.

The result was never in doubt as the Chargers raced out to a 21-6 lead in front of their home crowd. Sapp made sure any comeback attempt by Delsea would come up short, by scoring 13 of the Chargers’ 17 fourth-quarter points.

Jeffery Lewis added seven points for Timber Creek, which will face No. 1 Hammonton on Friday.

The Timber Creek girls basketball team also advanced to the Group 3 semifinals, and did so in dramatic fashion.

The No. 6 Chargers overcame a 23-15 first-half deficit in a 44-43 overtime win over No. 3 Central Regional.

Timber Creek outscored Central by a 15-8 margin in the third quarter and was able to take the game into overtime thanks to an aggressive defense.

In a surprising turn of events, Timber Creek will host a Group 3 semifinal thanks to No. 7 Seneca’s 51-47 upset of No. 2 Woodrow Wilson.

Seneca and Timber Creek are familiar with each other, having met twice in the regular season. Seneca owns 66-56 and 48-43 wins over Timber Creek.

TRITON BOYS FALL: The No. 7 Mustangs saw their season come to an end at the hands of No. 2 Lenape. Triton struggled off the tip, falling behind 17-4 after the first quarter and was unable to work its way back into the game. Kris Baylor led the No. 7 Mustangs with 10 points, while Dylan Daniluk added seven.
