Township BOE May Add $300K to the Budget

The Gloucester Township school board could tap into its capital reserve to pay for unexpected items like a mold remediation at Mullen Middle School.

NOTE: This story has been changed from its earlier version, which incorrectly said the Gloucester Township Board of Education on Monday voted to add $300,000 to its budget.

The Gloucester Township Board of Education may add $300,000 to its current budget to pay for emergency maintenance, including the recent remediation of mold at Mullen Middle School.

The board will vote on the resolution at its Nov. 18 meeting.

The money would come from the districts capital reserve fund. It will increase the budget to $107,624,828.

The mold remediation of four areas of Mullen over a weekend in October cost $67,500, and was performed by ServPro. A ruptured water main at the Lewis Middle School the same month cost $10,000.

Schools Superintendent John Bilodeau told the board other repairs may be needed in the township's 11 schools and he didn't want to keep coming back to them for additional funds. He added that any money not spent will be returned to the capital fund and not used on anything but capital improvements.
