Two Triton Seniors Participate in National Signing Day

The Mustangs' Keller and Fakolujo both signed letters of intent to take their games to the next level.

There is perhaps no day in all of amateur sports that marks the culmination of years of sweat, dedication and hard work in pursuit of athletic excellence more than the NCAA's National Signing Day.

Senior student-athletes all around the country signed Wednesday, making formal commitments to play their respective sports at the collegiate level.

With friends, family, coaches and Triton administrators in attendance, two Gloucester Township residents, Brian Keller and Abiodun Fakolujo, watched the ink dry on their formal commitments at a ceremony held in the Runnemede school’s library Wednesday morning.

After much deliberation, Keller formally committed to play football at Lafayette, passing over schools such as Colgate and Lehigh.

Keller quarterbacked the Mustangs to an 8-3 record and a trip to the South Jersey Group 4 semifinals, also earning All-South Jersey honors at defensive end.

“This means a lot to me, being able to take the next step and further my career in football,” Keller said. “None of this would have been possible without my team, my coaches, and everyone around me that has supported me to help me get to this point.”

Fakolujo, a dominant force on the soccer field, was largely responsible for the Lady Mustangs' resurgent 2011 campaign. She will be taking her talents on the soccer field to the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).

“It is the best place to further my education—the curriculum there is fantastic, while the coaches, athletic staff and girls are beyond what I could ever want in a team,” Fakolujo said.

Keller is also looking forward to going from the college-selection process to graduation to freshmen orientation.

“It’s a great college and education in a beautiful town in eastern Pennsylvania,” said Keller. "They have great facilities, and the team is on the up and up—we’re going to win Patriot League championships.”

The 6-3, 225-pound Broadmoor resident plans to play tight end at Lafayette.

“In their scheme of offense, there’s a lot of play action. The tight end lines up in the slot a lot and is a focus of what they do—it’s almost like what the (New England) Patriots do,” he said. “My goal is to just catch the ball, do what I have to do, and get the win.”
