Viewfinder: Smiles Abound at County College's Dental Day

Students of the college's Cooperthwaite Dental Hygiene Clinic cleaned children's teeth as part of "Give Kids a Smile!" Day.

On Friday, Feb. 4, students and staff of Camden County College's Cooperthwaite Dental Hygiene Clinic's dental-hygiene and dental-assisting programs did free cleanings and other preventative care for roughly 80 children.

The program was offered as part of "Give Kids a Smile!" Day. Camden County College was one of 80-plus entities statewide to partner with the New Jersey Dental Association to provide the free cleanings.

The second floor of Taft Hall was festively decorated to make the children's visits—the first dental-care trip for many–an enjoyable experience.

"We really believe it's important to make the first impression a lasting impression, so we really want to make it a positive experience," said Jean Corbi, a registered dental hygienist and "Give Kids a Smile!" Day program coordinator at the college, where she is an adjunct professor.

In addition to warm, welcoming balloons and streamers, the children were greeted by Elmo, the Tooth Fairy and the Chick-fil-A cow.
