Blackwood Kiwanis 10-11 Team Wins Championship

Blackwood defeated Audubon for the District 14 title Wednesday night.

The Blackwood Kiwanis Little League 10-11 All-Stars defeated Audubon Wednesday night to win the District 14 title.

It didn't take long for Blackwood (4-0) to take the championship. The game was ended by 10-run rule after just four innings of action, with Blackwood winning by a score of 10-0.

Blackwood broke the game open in the third inning, scoring five runs in the frame to take a 6-0 lead, manager Ben Zanghi said.

The Blackwood offense was led by Marc-Anthony Rodriguez, who hit two home runs in the game, including a towering drive in the fourth inning Zanghi said landed on the New Jersey Turnpike, located nearby the Barrington Little League field where the championship game was staged.

Audubon (2-2), which advanced to the championship round with an elimination-bracket win over Erial Monday night, never recovered from the long home run.

Rodriguez finished District 14 play with four home runs, according to Zanghi.

Dylan Maria, who was named co-MVP of the tournament along with Rodriguez, smacked two triples in Wednesday's championship-clinching victory, giving him six for the tournament.

Maria was credited with the win for Blackwood. He allowed just one hit while striking out nine Audubon hitters in four innings of work.

Jared Colbert and Macen Collins joined Rodriguez and Maria in the Blackwood extra-base-hit parade, each delivering a double in the game.

Blackwood will face District 21 champion Waterford Township in its Section 4 opener next Tuesday in Linwood. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
