Byrd TD Grab Boosts South Carolina

Damiere Byrd scored a third-quarter touchdown to help No. 6 South Carolina beat SEC foe Kentucky.

Damiere Byrd scored a touchdown in the third quarter of South Carolina's SEC road win over Kentucky Saturday.

The former Timber Creek Regional High School standout's 30-yard touchdown catch from junior quarterback Connor Shaw pulled the Gamecocks to within 17-13 of the host Wildcats.

South Carolina (5-0) trailed 17-7 at halftime.

After Byrd's second touchdown catch of the 2012 season, South Carolina took control of the game, shutting out Kentucky in the second half en route to a 38-17 win.

"We had a lot of missed opportunities," Byrd told the Associated Press, "but we were able to take advantage in the second half."

Byrd is now averaging 27.3 yards per catch on nine catches for 246 yards on the season.
