Camco Paralympian April Holmes Wins Bronze

Somerdale's April Holmes adds to her track medal collection with the third-place finish in London.

April Holmes has a new member of her “medal family,” as the Paralympian calls it, after she sprinted her way to a bronze finish at the 2012 Paralympics.

, clocked a 13.33-second finish time in the 100-meter race, finishing just behind France’s Marie-Amelie le Fur (13.26) and the Netherlands’ Marlou van Rhijn (13.32). Her time was a seasonal best for the athlete.

Holmes entered the race as the defending gold medalist. She competes in the T44 classification for Paralympians with amputations. Holmes lost her left leg below the knee after a train accident.

Holmes will have a second chance at medaling in the 200-meter T44 race. The preliminary heats take place Wednesday.
