'Field of Dreams' Dedication Set for April 20

A fundraiser to benefit the handicap-accessible baseball field will be held Feb. 24.

Gloucester Township's "Field of Dreams" will be dedicated on Saturday, April 20, Mayor David Mayer announced last week.

"As you know we have been working on building a Field of Dreams whereby children and adults with disabilities could play baseball, play softball on a field that is specifically designed to meet their needs," Mayer said during the Feb. 11 Township Council meeting.

The field for physically and mentally disabled ballplayers will be located in Gloucester Township Community Park, in the township's Erial section.

In addition to other upgrades from the typical ball field, the Field of Dreams will include an artificial-surface infield to make it easier for those in wheelchairs and walkers to play the game.

A bowl-a-thon fundraiser to benefit the public-private partnership will be held Sunday, Feb. 24, at Brunswick Zone in Turnersville from 1 to 3 p.m. The cost is $15 per person.
