Five Things You Need to Know ... Timber Creek Girls' Track and Field

After a strong showing at the South Jersey Group III championships last week, several members of Timber Creek's girls' track and field team are seeking for state titles.

1. The Timber Creek girls’ track and field team finished third in the South Jersey Group 3 sectionals last week at Egg Harbor Township High School. Delsea and Winslow Township were the only two teams to finish ahead of the Lady Chargers. Head coach Karim Fisher was pleased with his team’s performance. "As a team, we performed pretty much the way I thought we would," Fisher said. "Some of our girls did some great things, so I was happy with what we did."

2. Five members of the Timber Creek girls’ track team (Bryanna Williams, Melissa Arnold, Alicia Terrell, Arynn Crawley and Sierra Jordan) will travel to Old Bridge High School today and Saturday to participate in the New Jersey Group III state championships.

Last week, Williams won South Jersey Group III titles in the 100-meter dash and long jump. She enters today’s meet as the top seed in the 100-meter dash and is expected to contend for multiple state titles. She is slated to compete in the 100-meter dash, long jump, and triple jump over the two-day event.

3. Melissa Arnold, the South Jersey Group III indoor 800-meter champion, will look to improve on her 800-meter time of 2:24.68 from a week ago. Fisher, who finished fourth at sectionals, didn’t have her best day, according to Fisher. "She competed in a few different events last week and she seemed a bit worn out," he said. "We’re looking for her to do a lot better this week."

4. Jordan Sierra looks to continue momentum this weekend in the state championships. Jordan, who competes in shot put, threw just over 37 feet at Egg Harbor Township High School. Based on her rapidly improving performance, her coach believes she could hit the 40-foot mark. "Every time she goes out she is improving by a foot and setting a personal record," Fisher said. "She’s been excellent for us."

5. Alicia Terrell is also contending for a Group III state title this weekend. After finishing second in the high jump with a 5-foot jump at sectionals, Terrell will look to perform closer to her season-best jump of 5 feet, 4 inches. Terrell, like Arnold, was called upon to compete in several events last week, likely contributing to a shorter jump than is her norm.
