Highland Falls in Football Playoff Opener

The seventh-seeded Tartans fell to No. 2 Northern Burlington, 38-18.

The Highland High School football team allowed 28 points in the first quarter and was never able to recover as it fell to Northern Burlington in its playoff opener Friday night.

Second-seeded Northern Burlington defeated No. 7 Highland, 38-18, in the quarterfinals of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 3 playoffs Friday night, according to nj.com.

The Tartans finished the season with a record of 4-6. Northern Burlington improved to 7-2 and will play No. 3 Barnegat in the semifinals next Friday.

By the time Derin Sweeney hit Jamil Jackson with a 27-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter to put Highland on the board, Northern Burlington already had the game in hand.

Fred Morrison hit the end zone twice for Highland, on runs of 9 yards and 1 yard, in the fourth quarter.
