Lights Delivered to Erial Little League

Lights from Musco Sports Lighting are set to be installed at Erial Little League in time for the start of the 2012 season on March 31.

The arrival of delivery trucks to Erial Little League on Thursday marked a new beginning for the organization. In about two weeks, the Little League is planning to host its first night games in its 30-year history.

For Erial Little League board member and Gloucester Township liaison Christian Sciulli, it is quite a milestone for a Little League that has won numerous District 14 titles at all age levels. Schiulli, along with league treasurer Jeff Mastrogiovanni, have been working on the lighting project over the past few months. Erial Little League is paying the entire cost of the lights and has

The lights were delivered by Musco Sports Lighting LLC, of Oskaloosa, IA. Trucks from the company arrived in the early afternoon on Thursday to drop off all of the lighting equipment in the parking lot of the , right outside the major field, where they will be installed. Construction is scheduled to begin Monday.

“We're hoping to drill the holes on Monday and drop the poles in on Tuesday,” said Sciulli.

for local residents to express any concerns about the lights. However, Scuilli said that only two residents came to the meeting and their concerns were very minor.

“Once we got the process started it was pretty smooth,” said Scuilli. “There were a couple concerns about how late the games would be played. We have to obey the town’s curfew ordinance, which is 10 p.m. on weeknights and 11 p.m. on weekends.”

The new lights are expected to increase Erial Little League's profile in terms of facilities in District 14. They will be able to host more District 14 tournament games with the ability to play night games. During the regular season, the lights will also allow Erial to play more games and much later into the night than in previous years.

The goal for the league is to have the lights erected and operational in time for Opening Day festivities on Saturday, March 31. The day will include a parade from Point Ariel Park to the complex, led by last year's 11- and 12-year-old District champions. That night, the first game under the lights is set to be played around 7 or 7:30 p.m.
