Sicklerville's Burroughs Wins Olympic Gold

Jordan Burroughs, a Sicklerville resident and Winslow Township High School graduate, won a gold medal in freestyle wrestling Friday.

Sicklerville's Jordan Burroughs has won Olympic gold.

Burroughs defeated Iranian Sadegh Saeed Goudarzi in Friday afternoon's gold-medal match to win the 2012 London Games' 74-kilogram freestyle wrestling competition.

Burroughs won a total of four matches Friday. He defeated Puerto Rico's Francisco Soler Tanco in the Round of 16, Canada's Matthew Judah Gentry in the quarterfinal round and Russia's Denis Tsargus in the seminfinal round en route to his gold-medal match with Goudarzi.

Burroughs, 24, is a graduate of Winslow Township High School. He won two national championships at the University of Nebraska and a world championship in 2011, and is widely considered the United States' best wrestler.
