Camden County College Supports Alex's Lemonade

The college's Kappa Delta Pi chapter raised more than $500 for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.

Camden County College's Kappa Delta Pi chapter raised more than $500 for childhood cancer research at its first lemonade stand to support Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.

The stand was held Wednesday in the courtyard of the college's Blackwood campus.

Organizer and Kappa Delta Pi president Micaela Tortella said 24 members of the honor society helped pour lemonade and raise awareness of childhood cancer.

“Kappa Delta Pi does a lot of service activities. We heard about Alex’s Lemonade Stand and since we are future teachers, it made sense for us to raise money for a charity that focuses on children,” said Tortella.

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation is a Pennsylvania-based organization that raises money to fund research for new treatments and cures for childhood cancer. The organization emerged from the front-yard lemonade stand of pediatric cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). At the age of 4, Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer.

Since Alex held that first stand, the foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, raising more than $35 million and funding more than 150 research projects.

If you missed the Camden County College stand on Wednesday, you can still "buy a cup of lemonade" from Kappa Delta Pi online on the Alex's Lemonade Stand website.
