Will this keep him out of Trenton and from doing any more damage there? If so, go for it.

What words of wisdom will he pass onto the students? Forget college, become a union goon and find aRead More political power broker to help you step on people to get to the top.

Standards are not curriculum. Testing is not curriculum. Districts write their own curriculum toRead More show how they will meet the standards and pass the test. This is from the Common Core document, which I encourage you all to read. If it's liberal to want a good educational system in the country, then I'm guilty as charged. "The Common Core State Standards are a clear set of shared goals and expectations for the knowledge and skills students need in English language arts and mathematics at each grade level so they can be prepared to succeed in college, career, and life. The standards establish what students need to learn, but they do not dictate how teachers should teach. Teachers will devise their own lesson plans and curriculum, and tailor their instruction to the individual needs of the students in their classrooms." www.corestandards.org

Also - charter schools and vouchers do not work, but I'm not even going to get into that. EveryRead More child in this country deserves the very best education we have to offer. Socialist - yes. Why? Because when our population is well-educated, we ALL benefit. If you want to reduce entitlements and unemployment, you should really be more in favor of improving public education. Otherwise, you're just part of the problem.
makemyday April 16, 2014 at 04:13 pm
Oh no @ fact checker, charter schools are very successful in New York. Why do you think parentsRead More are fighting DiBlasio? They give ALL the children excellent education without the overcrowding and fear of violence that occurs in the NY public schools. Why do you think D.C. Parents want school vouchers? So they can CHOOSE to send their children to charter or private schools for the best education. But Obama prefers public schools for all kids , except of course HIS kids.

Mr.Bilodeau said very little about the situation on the Vote. It did go to Mrs.Nicolosi,ExecutiveRead More Superintendent for the County. She informed a resident via E-Mail that the School District will begin the process all over again. The School District will advertise that the seat is open and applications and resumes will go directly to Mrs.Nicolosi .She said," All decisions will be made with the children of your Township in mind and not in the interest of the adults". One would hope that means the person she selects has as their motivation to apply what is best for the Education of our children and also that they have no Political aspirations. I guess we will see. Whoever is selected will have to run in a Public Election in November as this and 2 other seats will be up for re-election fortunately.

If you follow the bread crumbs you will find Gunn, Carr, Coyle and Fontanez will lead you back toRead More Mayer and the democratic machine, which seems odd since the Board is supposed to be non political. These four Board members every move is political and not children first, just look at their push to get Pearce in. Then when he gets disqualified and now they push for another Township hack with their choice of Mr.Owens and when asked to tell the public why they backed Owens over Hengst they refused. Another example of contempt towards residents wishes for accountability and another example of politics first and residents second. Residents don't forget all this next election! As for Mr. Bilodeau I have one question, you show up at our building chest all puffed out talking tough, yet when a leader is needed at the Board meeting you are shamefully quiet, time to man up Johnny boy!

This one just pisses me off, no Social-get one or get out-. Good for the district. If you are aRead More legal and you pay tax, have a DL ect., then this should be an easy one. F-in liberal BS, lets not hurt anyones feelings.

As a citizen, I have to prove who I am, prove where I live, where I was born in order to get aRead More drivers license. Years ago, I had to prove my kids had their shots, show their SS# and birth certificate to register for school. So why don't foreigners have to prove they are here legally before they reap the benefits of our country? Just asking?

Schools in general is nothing but fakes. Not even close to accurate. To many reasons to list. YouRead More have to many dishonest people involved in the outcome in changes that shouldn't be. Yes, schools play to make it look one way that is not even close to what it should be. They rig the outcome to make their school look good for certain students who they might have a connection with in some way. You can have students who rank higher in lower level classes that are not even close in comparison that has no business being 2 or 3 in a class.

GTWatchdawg, with all due respect, Felicia's not being present when Ed Pearce was appointed had noRead More impact on the final result. Trust me. I can not be convinced that what occurred then was not predetermined. The vote was scheduled for a night when it was known prior that Ms. Reid was unavailable yet done so anyway as it was the last opportunity to make it happen before I was sworn and since another "friendly" vote was supposedly not available the rest of the month. While I may not agree with all she has done in the past, I assure you that Ms. Reid has the best interests of the children and District as her primary goal.

I believe that there are members on the Board of Education who want to vote for what is in the BestRead More interest of the Children and the Schools. But we also know that there are at least half of them that will vote as they are directed to by an outside source/party/leader. It is these people who must be replaced. We do not need to add yet another person who was given/selected by the Party/Township to the Board of Education If you are on the Gloucester Township Planning Board or any Township Board you will not be impartial and you will have to divide your time. The School District has full time problems ,ask any Parent ,and they need a person with no other Board commitments.Come out and help make sure that the Members of the Board of Education use Ethics to make the Best selection .Monday March 17, 5:30 C.W.Lewis School.

Hey Joe-90% tax rate existed with a number of signifigant loopholes that resulted in a nominal taxRead More rate in the mid 40s for the highest earners...stop getting your talking points from MSNBC and think for yourself. and even if you took every dollar from the top 10% of earners in this nation, we would still have a deficit...spending is the issue, not revenue....do you get that fact or does your hatred for the wealthy cloud your ability to digest reality...
Joe R March 15, 2014 at 08:51 am
Hey SH, in the 1950s, the top marginal tax rate was 91% and the effective tax rate was about 51%Read More after the loopholes. Oh, so we don't have loopholes today??!? Ha, ha, ha. The current top marginal tax rate is 39.6% but that's before all the loopholes. The effective tax rate is even lower than 39.6%. JFK eliminated many of the loopholes and reduced the top marginal tax rate to 74%. That works for me.
SH Resident March 15, 2014 at 07:02 pm
Joe-I will agree to raise the marginal tax rate to 50%...what programs other than defense do youRead More propose to cut? Exactly none is probably your answer...cutting defense and raising taxes does not get us to a balanced budget...we need to cut spending...you socialists never seem to get that point...and moreover, how about EVERYONE has some skin in the game and has to pay some income tax.... you will never want to cut spending on social programs because then how will you bribe low information voters to win elections?

So one resigns and all charges are dropped, meaning this person will probably have another job inRead More another district and another who claims she will lose her identity if her certificates are revoked. Its too late for that. Whether her certs are taken or not, I will still view her as helping a predator who, also, over looks the best interest of the students in the school she works for.

You are right Stephanie that this is just an article, but 15 people have applied for the position.Read More I do not want the people or board members thinking someone is qualified or not for the position based on their education alone. Hopefully others in the future will not be deterred from applying because of a lack of education. Not everyone goes to college and I would like to have at least one board member who did not go to be there to properly represent the point of view of those children and families who won't be college bound. As far as your other concerns, if this is already under investigation I am sure more details will emerge.
Bea Coyle February 25, 2014 at 11:37 am
I agree that not every Board Member needs a College Degree. However ,it would be beneficial to haveRead More a variety of people. A teacher with knowledge of the inner workings of a classroom,a Parent with a vested interest in what is going on,a person with knowledge in Special Education, as no one on the current Board seems to understand the many concerns about that department and some one with finance experience. Above all people with ethics and a conscience would be a great change. If you have attended Board meetings you know that a lot of the decisions they made STAND simply because they said so. That is no longer acceptable to Parents

I hereby nominate myself as a candidate, now that the esteemed Mr. Pierce has stepped down, and hopeRead More to join that august body of community leaders and educators; and if elected, promise to do my best to provide the framework needed for the youth of this great Township to excel academically and morally – and to plaster the town with more F'n solar panels that you dopes will be paying for if you hang around long enough.

I completely misread Jen's post. So, for the record, I stand corrected and regret doing so.Read More Sheila, unfortunately, I don't have children, and am able to freely make vacation plans. As for our education system, I'm afraid it's appalling, but I pay my tax dollars in support, none the less.

If the School Board and Township Council didn't hold their meetings on the same night you might haveRead More 3 to 5 more people at both.
Bea Coyle February 22, 2014 at 12:07 pm
That is exactly why they hold meetings at the same time. Their goal is to discourage people fromRead More attending. And when a large crowd does come out and it has ,they call in the Police to stand guard over them. Funny tho the night Pearces "friend"confronted a Mom to intimidate her, they didn't have a Police Officer present. Like everything else its just all about them.
Paul J. DiBartolo February 22, 2014 at 02:12 pm
The message from GT leadership is loud and clear..."Shut up and sit down!" In otherRead More words...B.O.E. -> "Tell the Council to switch their meeting night." GT Council -> "Our meeting agenda is set for the year." Bottom line from both of these entities, "It doesn't matter what the people want, they're only good for paying the bills."

I thought this was very funny. I even played it back for friends as we danced around the room. IRead More believe it is the quirky stuff in life that makes it all worth it. Jim, Geez you are the one who can't be that ignorant yourself. You couldn't be more wrong and inRead More denial. Nothing jives with any of these tests. They compare SAT's and some schools average 1535 total and think that is good. I think that score is unacceptable. Just a little over what the state requires. The H.S. do little or just enough to get by. Just passing is good enough for them. You have schools who some considered top schools bragging how great they are getting average sat's at 1545. @Speedz..You are right on and I agree it is hard to figure out what makes sense versus real.
esther March 3, 2014 at 12:02 am
Here's what I measure when considering schools- and this applies directly to Montclair and allRead More districts- Has my child been taught to be an independent thinker, an active problem solver, willing to take on challenges, work as part of a team, and the confidence to work independently? Has my child met a teacher who has motivated him/her to be their best academic self and created a lifelong learner? That's how success is measured. Numbers/statistic can be tugged, pulled, hidden, adjusted, and manipulated. The cold hard facts that your child has the attributes previously listed above is the true measure. That's done here in Montclair and other districts in New Jersey and beyond- or at least it was true before the core curriculum standards and the broads invaded.
ED April 12, 2014 at 11:54 am
esther, You have a few things right. Numbers/Statistics can be tugged, pulled, hidden, adjusted andRead More manipulated. By Who? The same people who are running the schools and handing in these reports. Everything in NJ is corrupted.

Now the kids get "rain days" ? Currently raining with a POSSIBILITY of 2 to 4 inches ofRead More WET snow. This is NUTS ! Who are the morons that decide whether to remain open or close ? At this rate the kids will be going to school until July.

June 20th to be exact. There could have been, at least, a half day. I think the administrators areRead More scared because of the kids getting stuck (and some in accidents) for 2 hours on the bus a few weeks ago when GloTwp was covered in ice.
