A man is fatally shot in the city's Fairview section.
A fatal shooting in Camden's Fairview section Friday morning set a new record for murders in the city, breaking the old mark of 58 set in 1995. By the time police arrived at the scene, Nicholson was already dead. Police were reportedly looking for a short, black man in a brown hooded sweatshirt in connection with the shooting. The 24-year-old appears unharmed; a man she was with in New York has been jailed on promoting prostitution charges.
Nearly a week after she was reported missing, Lisa Fago of Erial was found safe in Cumberland County Thursday night. Fago, 24, reportedly sent friends and families text messages that she had been abducted in Camden and taken to New York City against her will. No evidence backed up that claim after Fago turned up, according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office. Fago was found in Bridgeton on Oct. 4. “She appeared to be in good health when contacted by police,” the prosecutor’s office said. Meanwhile, a man with Fago in New York—Craig Pittman, 37, of Jamaica, NY—faces charges of promoting prostitution. He was found on Route 55 in Deptford and had earlier dropped off Fago in Bridgeton. Pittman is jailed on $150,000 bail.

County officials plan to apply for a one-year exemption from civil service hiring rules to comb through 1,500 applicants and create a turnkey force by January.
After a lengthy public comment period at the Magnolia community center Thursday night, the Camden County Freeholders took another step forward in the process to replace the Camden City police force with a county-led metro division. The body can now formally apply to the state Civil Service Commission for a one-year exemption from government hiring rules to start reviewing candidates for the new force. The request is expected to be fast-tracked. The freeholders also formally accepted $60,000 from the New Jersey Division of Local Government Services that will be applied to the start-up costs involved in sifting through the 1500 letters of interest they’ve already received for the unit. Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli said that policing …
