Gloucester Twp. Council Names Winters to Complete Gentek's Term

Council pegs Blenheim's Michelle Winters to serve out the remaining 10-plus months of Michelle Gentek's term.

Township Council chose Michelle Winters from a list of four residents nominated by the Gloucester Township Democrat Committee to complete what remains of Michelle Gentek's four-year term. The all-Democrat Council was unanimous in approving Winters to serve on the governing body through Dec. 31, 2013. Councilwoman Tracey Trotto nominated Winters for the Council seat, and her motion was seconded by Councilman Dan Hutchison. "Ms. Winters is a longtime resident of our township, a Triton graduate," Council Vice President Orlando Mercado said. District 13 Votes Put on Hold

Poll workers were alerted that the machine had a low battery before polls opened, county officials said, and it was replaced with another machine within an hour. It could be up to two weeks before the county adds District 13 votes to those from the township's 39 other districts to arrive at an official tally. Official: No Mystery to Comcast Grant

The township's business administrator says the grant was used to keep taxes down.

A $160,000 "technology grant" Comcast Cable awarded the township in 2008 while negotiating its franchise renewal agreement here was used to help reduce the tax levy. It's as simple as that, according to Business Administrator Tom Cardis. Former mayor Cindy Rau-Hatton's administration put forward a Fiscal Year 2009 budget that inserted Comcast's $160,000 into the budget as general revenue, according to Cardis, who held the same position under Republican Rau-Hatton as he does now under Democratic Mayor David Mayer. The money was used "to offset the amount to be raised by taxes. It wasn't set aside for any programs, televising Council meetings or anything like that," he said on Wednesday. Comcast did not attach specific conditions to how the …

I'm a senoir but I have access and understand computers, many of my friends do not. Many of the Seniors do have channel 19 and would rather watch it on tv. Perhaps the Council President Glen Bianchini and the Mayor Dave don't want to be to seen. It could potentially ruin their voters who they rely on the most, the seniors.   more ›
