Thomas Eden is now an ex-Gloucester Township Police officer after his plea to a drug charge stemming from an April 2012 arrest.
A Gloucester Township Police officer accused of buying drugs on the job pleaded guilty to a lesser charge Thursday and immediately lost his job. Thomas Eden Jr., 31, of Sicklerville, reportedly bought prescription drugs while on duty in April 2012. A tip to police led officers to the Howard Johnson motel on the Black Horse Pike, where Eden—on duty, in uniform and driving a police cruiser—purchased oxycodone and Percocet pills from an undercover informant. Eden pleaded guilty to third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance. While he’ll learn his sentence on Feb. 22, his plea deal calls for noncustodial probation. Roughly 24 hours after one of his officers was arrested on drug and weapon charges, Gloucester Township Police Chief W. Harry Earle was still angry. Ptl. A township police officer has been charged with several drug and weapon offenses following an investigation into allegations he had been illegally purchasing prescription pills. Ptl. Thomas E. Eden Jr. was arrested Tuesday at approximately 2:30 p.m. at the Howard Johnson Express Inn at 832 N. Black Horse Pike, in the township's Blenheim section, after he allegedly purchased seven prescription pills from a police informant, Police Chief W.
