Tartans Hoping to Shock South Jersey

The Highland girls' soccer team already has one upset in the Group 3 playoffs. Now the No. 11 Tartans are looking to knock off No. 3 Kingsway.

Prior to the final regular season game for the Highland Regional High School girls’ soccer team, head coach Tiffany Strauss said she believed her team was capable of making a run in the Group 3 playoffs. It’s not rare that a coach shows faith in his or her squad this time of year, but Strauss’ message did stand out for a simple reason: The Tartans had won three games all season. Yet it wasn’t just “coach speak” from Strauss; she legitimately believed her No. 11 seed Tartans could go into No. 6 Burlington Township and walk out with a victory. “I think that our record may not show how effective we are,” Strauss said on Oct. 25. “We are a very strong team and very competitive. Soccer Playoff Brackets Released

Five local soccer teams will compete in the playoffs, which begin next week.

Five soccer teams in the Black Horse Pike Regional School District found out their playoff opponents today when the NJSIAA released the boys’ and girls’ soccer playoff brackets. The Timber Creek boys’ soccer team will begin its quest to defend its South Jersey Group 3 championship as the No. 4 seed. The Chargers, who advanced all the way to the state final in 2011, will host No. 13 West Hampton Tech on Monday. With a victory, Timber Creek would face the winner of No. 5 Cumberland/No. 12 Oakcrest. Moorestown, which defeated Timber Creek, 1-0, in the South Jersey Coaches Cup quarterfinals last weekend, is the No. 1 seed.
