Gloucester Township asks its residents to "make it a day on, not a day off."

  Gloucester Township Council Vice President Orlando Mercado was pleasantly surprised when more than 100 people showed up to volunteer for the township's first-ever Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service in 2012. He wants—and expects—to see more than that for 2013's MLK Day of Service. "We have 10 service projects where we are asking for volunteers from throughout our community to participate in," Mercado said during last Thursday's Council meeting. "Last year was the first year we did this and we ended up with about 120 volunteers, (and) we only put it out two weeks prior to it. ...
