Pint-Sized Runner from Gloucester Township Competing in Broad Street Run

Allie Hauer, a 10-year-old student at Erial Elementary School, will run in the 10-mile race this weekend.

Although more than 38,000 runners are expected to compete in the Broad Street Run in Philadelphia on Sunday, May 6, Allie Hauer will be easy to spot. She’ll be one of the youngest runners in the 10-mile race, having turned 10 on Sunday, April 29. She’ll also be wearing a pink T-shirt that says “Go Allie” on the front, and “10 Miles for her 10th Birthday” on the back. Plus, she’s only 4 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs less than 60 pounds. So how did a pint-sized fourth-grader at Erial Elementary School end up registered for the country’s largest 10-mile run? Woodbury Club Stokes Passion for Running, Health

The Road Runners Club of Woodbury is one of the few clubs of its type in South Jersey.

There’s only one thing brighter than the sunset at Woodbury Creek Park. It’s the blazing orange shirts of the Road Runners Club of Woodbury. Every Thursday night at 6:30, the group of runners–usually about 15 or so–gather at the base of Wood Street, next to the Woodbury High School track, before taking off on a three-mile jaunt through the streets of Woodbury. It’s not just a bunch of people taking off on a run, though–it’s about building a running community and helping people improve their lives. “It’s the passion–we love to run, we love to help people,” said John Carlson, the group’s vice-president and recruiter, and a marathoner himself. “We’re passionate about spreading health, not just running.” Carlson, a former powerlifter who had …
