Chews Landing Fire Dept. to Bring Santa to District 2 Neighborhoods

Fire District No. 2 residents get an opportunity to see Santa Claus in their neighborhoods on Dec. 16 and 23.

The fire departments in Gloucester Township sure are keeping Santa Claus busy leading up to Christmas Night. Chews Landing Fire Department will bring Santa to neighborhoods in Fire District No. 2 the evenings of Dec. 16 and Dec. 23. The Kris Kringle-carrying fire truck will leave the Somerdale Road fire station at 6 p.m. each night. On Dec. 16, the fire truck will travel to those neighborhoods on the Chews Elementary School side of Chews Landing Road—Broadmoor, Timber Birch and all the courts off Somerdale Road. On Dec. 23, the fire truck will travel to those neighborhoods on the opposite side of Chews Landing Road—the Lakeview and Hilltop areas, Valleybrook, Glen Oaks, Millbridge, and La Cascata. Blackwood Fire Co. to Bring Santa Around Town

A Blackwood fire truck will roll through District 4 with Santa Claus on Dec. 18.

Santa Claus is coming to town again—at least twice, in fact, before the big night, courtesy of both Gloucester Township Recreation Department and Blackwood Fire Co. If you missed Santa at Blackwood Fire Co.'s 25th annual Christmas parade (click the link for a photo gallery) Saturday night, rest assured that jolly ol' St. Nick will be back. Not only will Santa be at Gloucester Township Recreation Center for brunch this Saturday morning, he'll be touring Blackwood-Fire District No. 4 on Tuesday, Dec. 18. Santa will be on the Blackwood fire truck, traveling through the Blackwood area, from roughly 5:30 to 9:15 p.m. Listen for the sirens announcing the big man's arrival in your area! Santa Comes to Town ... Again

If you miss Santa Claus at the Blackwood Fire Co. parade this weekend, be sure to catch him at the Rec Center two weeks later.

If you miss the big 25th annual Blackwood Fire Co. Christmas Parade this Saturday and want to give your kids a chance to see Santa Claus without braving the mall crowds, mark down Dec. 15 on your calendars. Santa Claus will be at Gloucester Township Recreation Center for brunch from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 15. Bring your own camera to take pictures of your loved ones with Santa. This is a free event. Bagels, doughnuts and juice will be served. Guests are asked to bring an unwrapped toy to support Toys for Tots.

Blackwood Christmas Parade Set for Saturday

Blackwood Fire Co.'s 25th annual Christmas parade starts at 6 p.m.

The Black Horse Pike in Blackwood promises to be bubbling with the holiday spirit this Saturday, as the 25th annual Blackwood Fire Co. Christmas Parade rolls through town. The parade, dubbed "The Music and Magic of Christmas," is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. The parade begins at Davistown Road and ends at Church Street. It is supposed to last about an hour. Following the parade, the star of the event, Santa Claus, will be present for an open house at Blackwood Fire Co.'s Central Avenue hall. The open house is scheduled to run till 9 p.m. Mainstage Center for the Arts' Harmony and Encore show choirs are slated to perform in the Academy Hall parking lot beginning at 5:15 p.m. to entertain the gathering crowd until the parade gets underway. …

5 Things You Need to Know ... Township Council

A quick-hit look at what to expect at tonight's Gloucester Township Council meeting.

1. The Council agenda, as posted on the township's official website, indicates the governing body will consider a resolution that would authorize township officials to advertise for bids for "ambulance services." The bid specifications were briefly discussed during Council's Oct. 1 work session. 2. Council will consider a resolution to allow Santa Claus to cruise down Black Horse Pike. That's right—Council will be voting to authorize Blackwood Fire Co. to hold its annual Christmas parade. The parade is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 1. The rain date would be Sunday, Dec. 2. 3. Council will consider whether to authorize the auctioning of surplus vehicles and supplies. The auction will be held Saturday, Nov. 10, beginning at 10 a.m…

Santa Claus and School Spirit

Gloucester Township Patch has picked six great weekend events. There's something for everyone, no matter what your age.

Last weekend, there was snow and this weekend the forecast calls for sunny skies. We'll take that dose of sunshine and use it to greet Mr. Claus at the Deptford Mall, then stay outdoors for a football matchup—two of our very own high school teams hit the field to face one another this Friday night. @ Michellle - I agree! I went to this event last year and it was so much fun. Then I remembered, my kids were just 3 and 4 then and missing school wasn't an issue. the good news? Kids who send letters to Santa care of the Blackwood post office will receive a response from the bearded big man himself.

Don't be surprised if your child receives mail via the "Reindeer Sleigh Mail Service" this holiday season. This lesser-known department of the U.S. Postal Service, which operates out of the Blackwood Post Office and other locations throughout the area, is dedicated to handling fan mail to the ol' St. Nick. "I want you to know that we gave your letter extra special attention by using the Special Christmas Express to take it on its long journey to the North Pole," one sample letter from Santa reads. "My reindeer are anxiously waiting to make the trip on Christmas Eve."
