The ceremony is set for 11 a.m. Sunday—the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
Stetser-Lamartine American Legion Post 281 will host its annual Veterans Day ceremony Sunday morning. With Veterans Day falling on a weekend this year, the American Legion post is able to conduct its ceremony "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month," as intended. The local veterans organization usually holds the ceremony at night on years when the holiday falls on a weekday, so as to allow more people to attend. The "11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month" commemorates the end of World War I, in 1918. Stetser-Lamartine's ceremony, which typically lasts about 45 minutes, explains the meaning of Veterans Day, formerly was known as Armistice Day. Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno signed into law a bill designating a stretch of Route 42 as Purple Heart Highway.
A 14.2-mile stretch of Route 42 spanning six towns in Camden and Gloucester counties will forever be named Purple Heart Memorial Highway after Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno signed into law a bill renaming the roadway at Stetser-Lamartine American Legion Post No. 281's Chews Landing hall Wednesday afternoon. "I am proud to sign this bill into law, giving the honor and respect to all Purple Heart recipients—past, present, and future—that they deserve for their bravery, heroic service, and sacrifice to New Jersey and to the United States," Guadagno said. The Purple Heart Memorial Highway stretch of Route 42 will run from Bellmawr to Monroe Township, touching parts of Runnemede, Gloucester Township, Deptford and Washington Township in between. …
