Chargers' Dan Williams Thrived on Biggest Stage

Junior quarterback Dan Williams is a major reason Timber Creek won the Group 4 title on Saturday.

When the Timber Creek High School football team went undefeated season on its way to the 2011 South Jersey Group 3 championship, it was largely due to the contributions of senior quarterback Calvin Lowe. Chargers head coach Rob Hinson often labeled Lowe as the most undervalued player on his team, because even though there were a host of players signed to play Division I football, it was Lowe who made everything flow in harmony. He led on the field and off of it, coming up with some of the best games of his career during the Chargers’ playoff run. With Lowe graduating in June, it should not have been all that surprising that, even with one of the most talented rosters in South Jersey, Timber Creek experienced a few hiccups in the first …

The Timber Creek Regional High School football team won its second South Jersey championship in two years—this time at the Group 4 level—with a 57-27 romp over Kingsway. The game was played at Rowan University Saturday night. Timber Creek, playing out of the West Jersey Football League's Royal Division, won eight in a row to finish the 2012 season at 10-2. The Chargers won a Group 3 championship in 2011 with a 33-7 win over Hammonton.

Timber Creek Football Repeats as Champions

The Chargers defeated Kingsway 57-27 in the Group 4 finals.

Repeat. It’s a word that was shouted over and over again Saturday night at Rowan University. The Timber Creek Regional High School entered the season with their eyes focused on repeating as South Jersey champions and their goal came to fruition in dominating fashion. Junior quarterback Dan Williams threw for more than 250 yards and five touchdowns and Zaire Williams ran for two scores, leading Timber Creek to a 57-27 win over Kingsway in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 4 championship game. “Repeat, repeat, repeat, that’s all that’s going through my mind right now,” said Zaire Williams. Kingsway had no answer for the Chargers on the ground or through the air. Dan Williams completed 15-of-18 passes for 256 yards, while Zaire Williams and …

Chargers Ready to Slay Dragons in Final

Timber Creek takes on Kingsway for the Group 4 football championship, at Rowan University, Saturday at 7 p.m.

After going 12-0 and winning a Group 3 championship in 2011, the Timber Creek Regional High School football team was widely considered the favorite to repeat this year, even with the move to Group 4. The expectations were based on the team’s seven Division I recruits, as well as a surrounding nucleus with championship experience. So, when the Chargers started off the 2012 season at 2-2, outsiders wondered if the team could make it back to the top of the mountain. Inside the Timber Creek huddle, there were no such concerns. “As a staff, we felt like we had the physical pieces necessary to repeat or at least have the opportunity to repeat, and the kids felt that way also,” said head coach Rob Hinson. On Saturday, the Chargers get that chance…

Chargers Heading Back to Title Game

Timber Creek defeated Shawnee, 32-22, in the NJSIAA Group 4 semifinals.

Timber Creek is heading back to the championship. One season after running the table and winning a Group 3 title, the Chargers are one win away from earning a Group 4 crown. No. 1 Timber Creek advanced to the championship by way of a 32-22 win over No. 4 Shawnee, Friday night. The final score didn’t represent how dominant the Chargers were for much of the game. Timber Creek built a 32-10 lead before Shawnee clawed back in the game with a pair of fourth-quarter scores. Junior quarterback Junior Dan Williams stayed hot, completing 14 of 21 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns. Williams entered the game with seven touchdowns in his last two contests. The Chargers set the tempo for the game early in the first quarter when senior running …

Chargers Ready for Return Trip to State Final

With a victory over Shawnee Friday night, Timber Creek will be back in the state final for a second consecutive year.

For players like Khalil Pierce and Greg Webb, Friday night’s Group 4 football semifinal between Timber Creek and Shawnee represents a chance to once again show their skills on the biggest stage. For players like Dan Williams and Zaire Williams, the game represents an opportunity to taste what the varsity members of the 2011 team got to enjoy. Whether the desire to win a first championship or a second, the hunger is the same throughout the huddle of Chargers players as they prepare for Friday's semifinal. “We have to be playing our best; it’s the playoffs,” Pierce, a senior running back, said. “Our coaches have stepped their game up and we need to step ours up. We have to keep it rolling.” Earlier this season, Williams talked about his …

Chargers Top Mustangs in Thanksgiving Rivalry Game

Timber Creek got three touchdowns from Dan Williams in a 34-7 win over Triton.

Quarterback Dan Williams had another big game, leading the Timber Creek Regional High School football team to a 34-7 win over Triton in the annual Thanksgiving Day contest. Williams threw for a pair of touchdowns and ran for another as the Chargers improved to 8-2. Williams got the scoring going with a 6-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and followed with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Casey later in the frame. Ziare Williams got involved in the second quarter, punching in a touchdown on a run from 3-yards out to give the Charges a 21-0 lead. Senior Bryce Shade showed his playmaking ability later in the second quarter when he broke free for a 60-yard touchdown to give Timber Creek a 28-0 advantage at the half. Jagger Green added a…

This game is not a rivalry. I would like to know why the Highland-Triton rivalry was abolished and why Highland sits idle on Thanksgiving? As a former Tartan captain (1989) it is sad that the BHP BOE let this happen.   more ›

Williams Shines in First Playoff Game for Chargers

Quarterback Dan Williams threw for three scores and ran for another in Timber Creek's 37-6 win over Hammonton.

For most of the season Dan Williams was in and out of the lineup as the quarterback for the Timber Creek Regional High School football team. Williams rotated with Miles Nash, and at times, Jagger Green, at the position, with each showing reason to continue to earn playing time. By the end of the regular season Williams had finally placed himself as the go-to guy at the position and was tasked with leading the Chargers back to the state finals. On the first playoff game of his career, Williams made his head coach look like a genius. Williams threw for three scores and ran for another, leading No. 1 Timber Creek to a 37-6 win over No. 8 Hammonton, in a rematch of last year’s Group 3 final. The Chargers will face No. 5 Shawnee in the Group 4 …
