Behind Dominic Scafidi's 36 points, Triton ran past the Chargers, 75-52.
It might be hard to think of such a loss as a step in the right direction, but after falling by 23 points to Triton Tuesday night, that is exactly what the Chargers should be thinking. Timber Creek (2-6) has now lost four straight games since beating Cherry Hill High School West Jan. 7 and has fallen into fifth place in the Olympic Conference Patriot Division standings. Despite showing an improved level of effort and intensity, the Chargers lost, leaving them ahead of only Seneca, which was 1-9 at the start of the evening. On paper, head coach William Fahy must have known that this matchup provided serious issues for his Chargers. The game would have to hinge on the Timber Creek forwards, D.J. Dunham and DaJuan Drennon, being able to …

The Chargers got their surge from Mikal Demby and D.J. Dunham again.
CHERRY HILL—Little by little, the Timber Creek boys' basketball team is looking like a team that might just be turning the corner. The Chargers overcame a sloppy first quarter and subpar shooting to beat Olympic Conference rival Cherry Hill High School West (2-4), 57-47, bringing their record to an even 2-2. They were once again led by senior Mikal Demby, who scored a game-high 21 points—15 of which came in the second half. It was the second consecutive 20-plus-point performance for the talented guard. "I think at the start of the game, Cherry Hill West did a good job of slowing the game down on offense," Chargers head coach William Fahy said, referring to his team's early struggles on offense. Like their game against Winslow Township, the…

The blizzard may have cost the Timber Creek boys' hoops team two games in Wildwood, but a week in the gym might be just what the team needed.
After suffering two losses to open the season, the Timber Creek boys' basketball team had hoped they would be able to get back on track while spending the first part of their winter break competing in Wildwood. Sadly for the Chargers, they were not given the chance. Due to the winter's first major snowstorm, the Chargers saw their two-game slate in the Wildwood Basketball Classic get erased in the name of public safety. When reached for comment early Tuesday, head coach William Fahy explained how the Chargers were planning to spend the extra, if not unwelcome, time off. "We are excited to play another game. Usually with basketball, you don't need to wait more than a couple of days before playing your next opponent. Since we didn't play so …

Timber Creek senior forward DJ Dunham gives more to his team than the stat sheets show.
If you ask DJ Dunham to describe his role during his first season at Timber Creek Regional High School last year, he would tell you he was the team's "trash man," and that he filled the role out very nicely. There is a certain level of pride that comes through in his words as he explains that he was able to excel in the role his coach had issued him. When coach William Fahy describes Dunham's play during their first year together, he uses terms like "leader" and "coach's dream." Dunham is a senior for the Timber Creek boys' basketball team. Like his coach, it is only his second year at the school, having transferred from Winslow Township High School after his sophomore year. They have forged a bond that they both are hesitant to admit. …

Defense is the key to the basketball team's continuing success.
If there is one weapon the Timber Creek Regional High School boys' basketball team brings to the 2010-11 season, it's defense. That and speed are both attributes that Coach William Fahy's team does not have in short supply. "Defense was one of our stronger points last year," said the coach, who is in his second season with Timber Creek. "We're really trying to emphasize the communication and basic principles with defense." While the Chargers might not play defense at last season's level just yet, Fahy expects the team to progress as the season moves forward. To do so, he looks to senior guards DJ Dunham, Caylan Gramby and Mikal Demby to lead the way. The three figure to play significant minutes in the coach's rotation and will be …
