Under Wraps: Most Sexual Assaults Go Unreported

Even as the sexual assault rate falls in New Jersey, more than half of all crimes aren't reported to authorities. Learn more in part one of Patch's series on National Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Every two minutes. That’s how often someone is sexually assaulted in America. When you really consider the magnitude of that statistic, it’s almost overwhelming. Every two minutes, perhaps the most personal of all crimes is committed against someone in this country. Every two minutes of the day, someone’s life is irrevocably changed. Gloucester Twp. Man Charged in Rape

Patrick English faces a sexual assault charge. He's already in custody for allegedly stabbing a pregnant woman.

Police this week charged a Gloucester Township resident with sexual assault and authorities are investigating whether he could be linked to other unsolved rapes in Lindenwold. Patrick English, 26, of the LaCascata Apartments, was charged Tuesday with sexual assault for a September 2010 rape. The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office said DNA results received this week linked English to the rape of a woman on Holland Avenue in Lindenwold. English already is in Camden County Jail on charges of aggravated assault for a reported attack on a pregnant woman in September 2010 at Arborwood Apartments in Lindenwold. In that incident, police said English entered the woman’s apartment, grabbed her by the hair and attempted to drag her toward the bedroom…
