On the article DWI Charges Dropped Against Paul Moriarty

Debbie,
I'm not sure we really disagree with each other too much here.
It seems obvious that there were ugly circumstances all the way around with this incident.
The evidence uncovered makes it clear that the officer aggressively targeted Moriarity. That should frighten you.
On the other hand, Moriarity seems to have abused his power to get away with something (refusing the test) that none of the rest of us could've done. That should enrage you.
On yet another hand, and the reason for my comment on Tuesday, the judge apparently wasn't bothered so much about the officer's brazen targeting. Instead, he dropped the charges because the dashboard camera didn't show a lane change violation. That should worry you.So who do you trust?

ReplyCome on. The Council mishandled a couple of insignificant technicalities. But, the Council had good intentions and followed the spirit of the law. No need to punish them.
This is like when someone makes a perfectly safe right turn on red, but technically doesn't come to a complete dead stop before doing so. No need to issue a ticket for this.....
Oh, wait. Never mind.

ReplySo, is the judge saying, in effect, that if the dashboard camera footage had shown an illegal lane change, then this targeted stop would have, indeed, been constitutional?
You know, if you follow behind a driver long enough, you are likely eventually going to be able to spot some little thing that is technically a violation. So if this officer would've waited a little longer, maybe this misconduct would've been allowed to stand.
Good to know.

On this, your recollection is good, Big Daddy.
From the GT website download page, on page 31 of "Report of Audit of Financial Statements 2011", there is an actuarial calculation that determines that the Township, as of 12/31/2011, should have funded $96.7 million for the health benefit plan. The amount that the Township has actually funded: $0.
(Note: The 2012 Audited Financial Statements have not yet been made available. This report is usually completed each year in April.)

And Paul, I agree. The report is very difficult to understand.
Its just the kind of document we'd expect, as it was designed by a government bureaucrat for the purpose of one government bureaucratic institution to report data to another government bureaucratic institution. -

Yes, Paul, I now remember Mr. Cardis stating that figure. But that amount doesn't seem to jibe with the figures I see on the Annual Debt Statement.
As I look closer at this Statement, it shows:
$20.1M Debt for GT Public Schools
$21.4M Debt for BHPRSD
$61.1M Debt for Gloucester Twp
$102.6M TOTALFor GT's debt, the Statement shows:
$37.9M Issued Serial Bonds
$9.1M Issued Bond Anticipation Notes
$10.4M Bond Anticipation Notes-Not Issued
$3.7M Issued-Misc Bonds, Notes, Loans
$61.1M TOTAL -

ReplyPaul, good and important topic.
Question-Where did you get the $44 milion figure?
When I look at the pdf document downloaded onto the GT website entitled "Annual Debt Statement 2013", I believe it shows GT's debt as $61 million. http://www.glotwp.com/downloads/index.html
(Note: The document is mis-named. It is actually the 2012 Debt Statement.)

Thanks, Gregg. That's a partial answer.
So then, reading between the lines of your partial answer, it sounds like those behind Grapevine have a political, partisan, Republican agenda.
That's okay with me. Good luck to you. I only want to know, as I am reading, the inherent bias of the reporter.

So, Gregg, please come clean. Please honestly disclose who is behind The Grapevine.. what is the underlying agenda.
Is this a truly non-partisan, objective information source? Or is this just more conjecture; more agenda-driven, deafening white noise?

Thanks for this info, Joan.
