Highland Jazz Band Trumpets Success with Top-Place Finish

The Gloucester Township regional high school won the Atlantic Coast Jazz Band Championship.

The Highland Regional High School Jazz Band is still celebrating this week after walking away with a top-place finish in the TIA Atlantic Coast Jazz Band Championship at the Wildwood Convention Center last Friday.

The band received a gold rating and a score of 97.67, which is the highest score in competition for any Highland Band in school history, according to band director Chris Tumminia. It is also the first jazz band championship of any kind for Gloucester Township's Highland and the Black Horse Pike Regional School District.

Highland also won three of the four soloist awards in the  competition, with Sierra Jorgensen and Mallory Wynne winning silver medals as piano soloists, and Katie Jorgensen winning the gold medal as the best overall soloist. The band won best rhythm and trombone sections.
